Just what I needed, but probably not

Here is the story. Last year at the Foodbuzz festival, Annie the Baker was all of the rage!  She makes these things called cookies.  They are not JUST any cookie though, they are little bits of perfection tasting more like dough than cookies.  Or so I have heard.

After the festival, there were various attempts to recreate the magic.  Mama Pea got it right.  Or so I have heard.

When we visited Napa valley in April, top on my list was to track down Annie the Baker.  She is a vendor at the local farmer's market on Saturdays.  I had it all planned.  Then, somehow, in my drunken wine haze, I forgot.  What a travesty?!?

So back to Mama Pea.  There are some things I know full well and good that I should not attempt.  Dough balls are one such thing.  I mean, a girl can only have so much will power.  But then, I had some mini peanut butter cups hiding in the fridge along with some leftover chocolate chunks.  The dough ball angels were calling me from above.

I had to tweak the recipe a bit from the original since I didn't have 3/4 C of any of 5 nut butters in my possession.  The end result is nothing but divine intervention.  Mr. J just kept going back for more.  I might have to hide the rest.

Peanut Butter Dough Balls

1/2 c butter
1/4 c natural peanut butter, chunky
1/2 c sunflower butter
1/2 c brown sugar
3/4 c powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 c whole wheat flour
1/2 c white flour
1/2 c mini peanut butter cups
1/2 c chocolate chunks

Directions:
1.  Cream butter with sugars, nut butters and vanilla till smooth and fluffy.

2.  Sift dry ingredients and add to butter mixture.

3.  Add peanut butter cups and chocolate chunks and mix together.  The batter will be somewhat dry but you should be able to make a ball with the dough.  If not add some more peanut butter.

4.  Set in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

5.  Once chilled, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Make 2 Tbsp size balls with dough, pressing together with hands.  Bake for 11 minutes and remove from oven.

Eating immediately will insure melty chocolate goodness.  I am going to enjoy these while I can because it is not safe to replicate this recipe again.

  1. Those peanubutter cups are dangerous!!! I bought myself a package of them this weekend and have to keep them in the pantry in the basement so I forget about them! They are also super delish in brownies.

  2. It would be nice to be able to meet some more foodbuzz folks but I can't afford to go anywhere unless it's as a author, and I'm not a food author.

  6. These sound like they would be super addictive...dangerous in my hands, but way worth making! I love eating dough, it is a wonder any of the dough gets baked! This is an awesome idea!

  7. Aren't these things amazing? I've made them 3x. It takes some serious will power to not make them every week!
