WIAW: San Sebastian Winery

My green intake was not so hot.  I already promised myself that I will do better next week.

This week we are on vacation in St. Augustine.  Basically a lot of my normally eating habits have gone out the window. Maybe not all the way out but they are at least teetering on the ledge.  Luckily we have a condo and that allows for a few homemade meals with the full kitchen. This is super helpful when it comes to breakfast.

The activities for the day included a wine tour and tasting at San Sebastian Winery. This may have been at 10:30am but I was fully hydrated.

The tour consisted of a short movie, a walk through the small facility in St. Augustine, and lots of information by our guide.

The tour ended with a tasting of several of the wines.  Due to the grapes San Sebastian grows in Florida most of the wines are on the sweet side.  Warm temperatures grow sugary grapes.

There were two wines I really enjoyed.  The ports and sherry samples were a bit much. The nice man next to me shared some of his crackers to rid my mouth of the strong liquor taste. I am just not that type of girl.

Lunch was a burger cooked up in the condo. I also had some chips and salsa and carrot sticks. I realize now this looks like one sad cheeseburger.

The afternoon snack was a shared banana pudding cupcake and a Boston cream cupcake from Happy Cake Cupcakes down the road.  Monday I had NO sweets and I was going through a bit of withdrawal.

Dinner was at a fantastic place called the Purple Olive.  We went to the early bird special.  If you go before 6:30pm you get a list of about 13 entrees that are about $13-15.  Basically I could have gotten anything on this list and been happy.

All of the entrees came with a choice of soup or salad.  I got salad for the pure purpose of getting greens. I gave up butternut squash soup and lobster bisque. It was one hard decision.

Dinner was seafood marinara.  It was is one of my favorite meals so even with all of the other wonderful options I went back to my favorite.  The dessert options were even better.  I ended up with a gigantic hazelnut tiramisu. It was so good.  And that my folks is what I ate...

  1. It's so hard to keep some balance while on vacation. I have the hardest time getting in all my water. Visiting from WIAW, nice to meet you.

  2. If you're still there I've got some recommendations for you for food places. Make sure to stop at Claude's chocolate shop - not the big touristy chocolate shop, but the actual chocolatier. He makes THE best chocolate covered pecans dusted in confectioners' sugar. There's also a bakery on the little strip with all the shops called The Bunnery which makes some of the best croissants I have ever eaten. There's another little bakery over near the wax museum off one of the little side streets - a French one. The woman is actually from France and make exquisite pastries! And don't forget the Tea and Spice Exchange - a must visit for cooks and bakers. And now I'll stop rambling... enjoy your vacation!

    1. I went to Claude's today. Looked fabulous but I didn't get anything. I will have to go back. The Bunnery is on the list of things to do. And the French shop was closed today. Yes, my vacation is spent searching for food items. Thanks for the recommendations, if nothing else it validates my madness to the family.
