Old Fashion Egg Cream and WIAW

This week can be summed up as busy, busy, busy. I had a ton to get done. Apparently my car registration is up and that means not only do I have to re-register my car but in the lovely state of Connecticut we also have to get an Emission Test.

Only certain places are certified for this which translates in to only one in town.  They also only accept cash.  And you cannot make appointments.  I woke up and basically ran out the door to fit in some gym time.  Thank goodness this was the one day a month they provide bagels.  Weird I know but I was pretty grateful this morning.  I ate about 3/4 and then felt bad about having such an unhealthy breakfast right after a run. Don't get me wrong I love bagels but they are not something I crave after a run. Mr. J ate remaining 1/4.

I showered up and was at the place at 7:50 for the 8am opening.  One gentleman beat me in line. If you know me, you would understand that I was a bit peeved by this. He was done at 8:10. I waited till 8:20.

Lunch is still all about the sandwiches.  Tomato, mozzarella, and basil.  Fresh strawberries.  Kettle chips cheddar and sour cream. I don't really like potato chips but these I cannot resist.  Seriously the bag needs to be hidden from me.

Flowers from this weekend were the scenery.  Are they pretty?  The vase is empty almost every morning. They sure are sucking up the water quickly.

Dinner was clams casino pizza.  Pizza night is something you need to get on if you don't already.  You can change it up every week.  It is quick (unless Mr. J does the toppings) and easy.

And for dessert an egg cream.  Do you know what that is? I certainly didn't till I ready about it in this month's Food and Wine magazine.  Soda fountains after all are quite trendy.

An egg cream is a beverage consisting of chocolate syrup, milk, and soda water, probably dating from the late 19th century, and is especially associated with Brooklyn, home of its alleged inventor, candy store owner Louis Auster. Modern versions of the drink contain neither eggs nor cream, although earlier versions did include eggs in the ingredients.

The egg cream is almost exclusively a fountain drink. Although there have been several attempts to bottle it, none has been successful, as its fresh taste and characteristic head require mixing of the ingredients just before drinking.

The article said serve with pretzels.  And serve with pretzels I did.
