WIAW Iowa

Many our vacation was to visit my brother and my just born nephew.  He was a heart stealer and we had such a good time visiting everyone.  However, part of the plan was a feast of Midwest food.

For What I Ate Wednesday today I will give you a hodge podge of our best eats.

Breakfast was at the Machine Shed an ode to the American Farmer.  They have the best breakfast.  Breakfasts that are made to feed a farmers hunger.

Potato skillets

Biscuits and gravy

Pancakes...every pork product you can imagine

And then there is the cinnamon roll.  It is big enough to feed a family of 6.  Gigantic and wonderful!

The day we arrived we headed straight downtown for Zombie Burger. This was highly recommended and did not disappoint.  There are all sorts of unique burgers.

We also got shakes.  They specialize in shakes with cereal and alcohol.

A Rice Krispie Treat has vanilla ice cream, Rice Krispies, and marshmallow cream. Or how about a S'more with chocolate ice cream, graham cracker, and marshmallow cream.

If that didn't convince you all of the shakes can have alcohol added to them.  Ever hear of vanilla vodka?

Sarah’s Revenge has Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeno strings, red onion, and horseradish sauce.

We split loaded fries which were amazing with shredded cheese, creamy cheese, bacon, scallions and sour cream.

Although I was laughed at a bit I got a salad.  It was a burger salad though. A Zombie Burger Salad has a seared beef patty, tomato, red onion, shredded Cheddar, fried pickle, and zombie sauce.

Dinner was at the Iowa Beef Steak House.

At the Iowa Beef Steak House you eat beef.  Every meal comes with the salad bar.

A grilled Texas toast

The unique part about the Iowa Beef Steak House though is the way you order. You pick your cut of steak and then you actually pick it out from the cooler.  You also have the option of actually standing at the grill and cooking it yourself.

For us the cooking is part of the fun

because the grill is so big!

And there you have three fantastic Iowa meals.
