Brown Sugar Lemonade

Incredibly sweet lemonade made with brown sugar.

I am just going to go and say it. I don't like lemon.  Please don't hate me.  The tartness just doesn't do it for me.  Even when made sweet in desserts like lemon bars or lemon meringue pie. No thank you.  It should be no surprise then that I don't care for lemonade either.

It's just not my thing.

But everyone can change right?  Back when we were in Atlanta we needed dinner one night and were out by Stone Mountain. After a quick Yelp search I found a Jamaican restaurant with rave reviews. Nice Mon.

This place.

Really no words can describe it.

It was tucked into a shady strip mall.  Even though the building looked suspect, there were plenty of nice cars in the parking lot so we took our chances and went on in.

The place was fairly small but no one was there except for an old black man sitting by the front door.  No workers. No one else. This gave us time to scan the menu but we weren't sure if we should stay or not.  Us two preppy people from Connecticut stuck out like a sore thumb.  Since not much else was around and the menu looked great we decided to stay.

It was one of those family run, no rules apply places. A little girl kept dancing around.  In fact I questioned the cleanliness of the place. No one else came to eat while we were there but there was a constant stream of people getting take out. They all knew each other. Clearly these were regulars and a lot of them.

We ordered hot wings, curry goat, jerk chicken and THIS lemonade.  We both ordered water but when the waitress mentioned brown sugar lemonade Mr. J jumped on it. I am so glad he did. I am still not a huge fan of lemonade but this drink had me going back sip after sip.

The brown sugar makes the liquid turn a distinct brownish color but the taste is sweet and has a fuller flavor than normal lemonade. We will be making this all summer long.

By the way the food was pretty darn amazing too.  Huge platefuls of rich flavorful chicken and goat.  Rice and beans. All for under $30.  We are still talking about it.
