White Pizza with Chicken and Fresh Herbs {SRC}

Super cheesy and garlicky  pizza with chicken, red onions and fresh herbs

June is winding down and I am getting geared up for the 4th of July. I think the 4th of July is my second favorite holiday after Thanksgiving. There is just something special about all the American pride, the BBQs and the fireworks that get me going.  The end of June also means it is time for another edition of The Secret Recipe Club.  Each month we get assigned a blog in secret.  We have all month to browse and pick a recipe. Today I am here to share my recipe for June.

This month I got Tara's Multicultural Table.  True to the name, Tara's blog features cuisine from around the world. She herself was born in Japan and spent time in Germany. Her husband is Filipino.

Her recipes are unique but accessible and many feature fresh foods. I was intrigue by her Middle Eastern dishes and I almost picked this soup from her Asian collection. But then it was June  and soup just didn't seem right.

I ended up choosing the White Pizza with Chicken and Fresh Herbs. Boy am I glad I did. This pizza was fantastic.

My husband and I made this pizza on a regular Monday night. It came together easily and since the ingredients were pantry regulars for us there was no extra trips to the grocery store. The chicken was leftover from our Sunday night dinner.

There was no need for any other sides or dishes. This pizza is filling.  The cheese sauce wasn't as cheesy as I expected (This was a good thing because when I was making it there seemed to be a lot. I was afraid it might be too much. It was the perfect amount) and the garlic flavor was great.

We ate this with cold beer and watched a World Cup game in front of the TV.

Thanks Tara for the great recipe. I will be making this again...and that soup once it the weather cools off again.

White Pizza with Chicken and Fresh Herbs

by Emily Morris
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Keywords: bake pizza chicken Italian
Ingredients (serves 6)
  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1-2 teaspoons cornmeal for sprinkling
  • Olive oil for brushing
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup shredded, cooked chicken breasts
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced red onions
  • 2/3 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh oregano
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Prep cookies sheet or pizza pan by sprinkling cornmeal lightly over the surface.

Roll pizza dough into a size that fits your pan and place dough on pan. Brush the edge with olive oil.

In a small sauce pan melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the garlic and cook until just fragrant, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Whisk in the flour and pepper and cook until golden. Continue whisking and slowly pour in the milk. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring often, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan, salt, and pepper.

Spread the sauce over prepared pizza dough. Sprinkle chicken and onions over the pizza. Cover with mozzarella.

Bake until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool about 5 minutes before topping with fresh herbs and slicing. Serve immediately.

  21. Emily:
I love your white pizza recipe. We sometimes have a "make your own pizza night" at home. I just started growing fresh herbs in my garden, which is perfect for your recipe. An added tip, I like to use pita bread as the crust, especially if I am pressed for time. Beautiful website!
