Friday's Five: You Know You're A Food Blogger When...

I am sure you have gotten those chain emails in the past that are...

You know you're a red neck when...

You know you're a Mainer when...

You know you're a hockey player when...

Well, it got me thinking about how some of the habits I have when it comes to food blogging.  There are some pretty strange ones that I have picked up that right now just don't seem that strange to me anymore. I haven't lost complete touch on reality though,  Mr. J gladly points out when I am crossing the line.

  1. Watching the Food Network cooking shows at the gym
  2. Photographing food at restaurants
  3. Not letting anyone eating so you can get the perfect photo of the dish, even if it takes 5, 10 or 15 minutes and the food gets cold
  4. Enjoyment comes from strolling a grocery store
  5. Reading cookbooks is a hobby
  6. You magazine collection is all food related

Do you have any "you know you're a food blogger when" statements?

  1. H-I do agree about how a person does change. No more new shoes or clothes, bring me to the specialty grocers or kitchen place! I have cookbooks all over the house-there is always one within reach. Happy friday!

  3. So true!
Here's one: You know you're a food blogger when you can't enjoy a piece of food without writing about it in your head.

    1. This is when I am bad company...staring off into space thinking about the post. Do you carry a note pad around for random thoughts.

  4. Oh my...all of those statements apply to me! Here's another: You know you're a food blogger when it's more important to finish a post than finish a paper for college...

  5. Oh my...my kids can so relate to waiting for their dinner. (Just a few more pictures..really..just one minute!)
Here is another one...You shop for dinner plates, salad plates and assorted bowls..but only buy one of each pattern. lol

    1. That is a great one. My husband does not understand the amount of bowls we have in the kitchen.

  6. Great post! I guess i'm not in that state of mind yet. I try to not let blogging taken over the rest of my life. I guess that when you work full time and try to get some blogging done it can be quite stressful. And it should be something fun.

  7. I don't suffer from the cookbook thing but all the others on your list plus all the ones the other comments mentioned. You also know you're a food blogger when your dining room table is set up as a photography area and not for eating.

  8. Ha! Too funny and too true, sadly. I practice every one but the first two - I don't go the gym and don't have the patience to photograph food at restaurants! I'm too enamored with what's in front of me to do anything but enjoy! Thanks for sharing this funny list, Emily. :)

You know you are a food blogger when....You plan your meals around the when you can get the best light.

    1. Yes, Yes! I don't plan on the light and then get so mad when I realize how much better the photos would have been about 2 hours before.

  10. Perfect! I agree with most everyone here. Cookbooks and magazines everywhere, camera handy, and for goodness sake, don't touch the food til I've taken a photograph!

  11. Oh My God, it's so true except I don't go to gym. it's only food shows when I switch on the tv!

  13. You know you are a food blogger when you have tons of napkins and none of them match! :)

  14. Ha ha! Awesome list. How about you know you are a food blogger when you buy dishware, napkins and placemats as "props"?

    1. This is a great one. I completely left this off the list. I have so many bowls and none of them match. I also might have a small army of tea towels.

  15. Love this - my boyfriend finds it so strange that I "enjoy" walking around the grocery store and get excited when my subscription to Cooking Light shows up in my mailbox. If he was a food blogger he'd understand ;)

    1. I cannot tell you how many times the husband had walked away from me in the grocery store because I was looking at too many food labels, comparing ingredients, dreaming of what I can do with said ingredients, etc.!

  16. You are thinking about the next meal/dessert to make before you've even finished the one you are on. You talk to other food bloggers on social networking pages more than/as much as people you see in real life. You are always looking for the newest food products.

  20. First of all I want to say fantastic blog!

I had a quick question in which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.

I've had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Kudos!
