Oh my goodness, what a weekend! We did so much. We wanted to do general clean up from the week, prep for the baby and there is more snow to come. I should probably say that I wanted to accomplish a whole bunch. Mr. J just obliges. I am starting to freak out about what I want to get done before the baby.
As a treat for all of his hard work I made Mr. J's favorite dessert. Profiteroles. These were actual suppose to happen in October for his birthday. Due to my overall tiredness each weekend they were put off a bit longer. Here we are in February and they finally made an appearance. He was happy.
One of the big baby chores for the weekend was to install the car seat. We ended up getting a travel system so the car seat came with a stroller. We tested it out all over the house. It was pretty darn nice. I can already picture us taking walks along the ocean.
And then I made a whole bunch of meatballs. I have big plans for freezer meals. Mr. J has some objections though. He is extremely picky about things from the freezer. I plan to post more about the whole freezer meal planning but as you can probably guess meatballs were on the list.
For the rest of the day I am going to park myself on the couch. Happy Sunday!!
This weekend was all about celebrating. We had a very low key Friday night for our anniversary. We were both beat from the work week and just ordered pizza. We also had some big plans for the long weekend.
We decided to make the trek into NYC for Saturday. Our trips normally revolve around our meal plan and this one was no different. I wanted to go to April Bloomfield's The Spotted Pig. Do you see all of the pigs? They were everywhere. I loved it! The place was pretty hipster but were so welcoming to us preppy folks from Connecticut. I got the most amazing grilled cheese. It was loaded with cheese and then served with a sweet onion marmalade. I offered Mr. J a taste and then had to fight him off of seconds and thirds.
He went all out ordering cold brewed coffee, a devil's egg and then this massive burger. I couldn't get it in the picture but under that bun was a boatload of bleu cheese. And that stack of potato sticks was gigantic. They were served with fried garlic and rosemary. He had to fight me off of these.
After walking around Greenwich Village and then Union Square we came back home. I was beat.
Sunday was pretty low key. I made chocolate chip cookies. We went to the movies to see A Hundred Yard Journey. It was my first choice. So cute! I loved seeing France and hearing French accents. Plus there was a lot of food shots. Don't go hungry because you will leave hungry. I currently need to visit a French bistro and then an Indian restaurant. Mr. J grilled steaks and corn for dinner and we enjoyed the evening inside as the thunderstorms rolled through.
Monday I made gumbo - recipe this week on the blog. Not sure if it was the best idea on a hot, humid day. It tasted amazing but left us both sweating.
We hit up the movies again. Mainly because Mr. J wanted to see his first choice movie - The Chef, and because it was super hot and movies equal lots of cold A/C. The movie was a bit slow to get going but then got really good. Also another movie where you will walk out hungry. This time for a Cubano sandwich.
We finished the day with an ice cream as a final farewell to Summer.

After a month of jammed packed weekends we didn't have much planned for this one. I was totally looking forward to doing nothing. Somehow things ended up being more hectic than planned but it was a good thing.
Friday night we didn't have much food in the house and we were both exhausted from the week. I claimed it Date Night and off we went to our favorite restaurant. We both got salads, entrees and shared a dessert. It was pretty darn good.
The only activity we had was a neighborhood block party. This was our first in the new house and I knew we had to attend even though Mr. J and I are the most unsocial people ever. If we could live in a cave we would. Regardless we muster up as much energy as we could and headed on over. We brought loves of sweet treats. We ended up meeting a ton of people and having a great time. Hopefully this will become an annual tradition.
After our fun filled afternoon we were beat. We ended up making burrito bowls and eating in front of the T.V. Mr. J went all out and made an awesome flank steak as our meat. Not quite Chipotle but pretty darn close.
In other news we ended up finishing the front door. It looks as good as we hoped. Plus we had several neighbors comment at the party that they loved it. Good thing too. The process nearly had me in tears but that is a story for another day.

My husband is currently making dinner. He prepped about two hours ago. He is crazy like that on Sundays.
We painted, mowed and walked by the ocean. We went to a flea market fair on the town green. I am kicking myself that I passed up three cute tin containers. We didn't really need them. So three dollars seemed like a waste of three dollars. Now that the fair is over and I don't have the tins I am like, "Man, it was only three dollars." I am cheap like that though. Sometimes that means I have regrets.

This was a very good week. We had all sorts of good eats and exciting adventures. In case you missed it here is what I was up to last week:
It is officially summer. Did you enjoy your five seconds of extra sunlight yesterday?
We were out and about all day long. We had a mission to pick up a moose head for our living room. Mr. J is obsessed with getting animal heads and fish mounts for our house. At first I was adamant with a no. Then, I said only in his space. He didn't think those were acceptable answers so here we are today with a paper mache moose head. It is actually classy. We don't have it up yet so no picture but soon.
We went down to Westport to pick it up. It is just about 50 minutes away. This area of Connecticut is dangerous for me. If there was ever a store I wanted to shop in I am pretty sure it exists within 5 miles of Westport. I tried to stay focused and only went to Penzeys spices, West Elm and Terrain. They have such beautiful things. I was ready to do lunch at Terrain but Mr. J had his eyes set on Super Duper Weenie.
They have legendary hot dogs in Connecticut. I am not always a huge fan of hot dogs but these were fantastic. Their fries were super amazing too. After being home for a bit cookies seemed right. Along with a big cup of French press coffee.
Today we have a home tour in some historical and ginormous ocean homes. I cannot wait.

Everything is back to life nowadays. These bushes in front of our house looked all but dead a few weeks ago. And now we have flowers!! They are so pretty and I wonder how long they will last. Of course they are super overgrown and that is a whole different story. I have no idea about plants. I have a feeling that in the coming years I am going to be forced to educate myself a lot more in this area. My strategy thus far is take lots of pictures of neighbors plants I like and the visit a garden store. It's working.
The plants aren't the only thing popping out. This little fellow paid us a visit on the fronts steps for quite a while Saturday. Chipmunks are everywhere. As are rabbits. We even saw two gigantic turkeys stroll through the yard on Friday morning. I am glad our yard is such a nice habitat for all of these creatures right now but if they eat my garden I am going to have a sudden change of heart. Any ideas to distract animals from gardens??
Mr. J and I have some exciting things planned this week that I plan on sharing soon as well as some yummy recipes.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!
I waited so long for this weekend. My brother and his family came up from DC and my parents came down from Maine. It is a full house.
My nephew is the cutest thing. Pretty much everyone adores him. Right now he has six dotting adults giving him full attention. I think he is living the dream life.
We had walks in our neighborhood, playground visits and a trip to the beach.
We also managed to plant our garden. All we need now is two tomato plants to fill in that hole in the middle. Also we need prayers to keep all of the critters and deer out.
We haven't gotten ice cream yet but I am hoping to take care of that this afternoon.

We are just cranking out the house work the last few weeks. We are having a gathering during Memorial Day weekend and there is a mad dash to check things off the to do list before we welcome 5 overnight guests. I think this weekend is my dream come true and nightmare all at once.
I cannot wait to have everyone come. I also wish I had about 6 more months and a whole lot of money to tackle some bigger projects in the house before everyone comes.
We filled a hole in the yard, thinned the woods, and painted a bathroom. Everything looks so much better which makes all of the hard work worth it. Saturday we were both zombies in front of the TV and finally called it a night at 9pm. We are such rebels.

This weekend was all about chocolate and painting. Not that they go very well together but I managed to finally get around to painting our dining room. I couldn't decide on a color or two colors for the room so I kept putting it off. I finally went with BM Nelson Blue.
It changes color depending on the time of day and the sun. It can be robin blue to a sea foam gray. I love it. (The picture doesn't do it justice at all.) Mr. J loves that now is can start his bar cart collection of alcohol.
Knowing that the painting was going to take up most of my day on Saturday, I decided on date night for the evening. Date night = no cooking, no dishes. We went to our favorite restaurant on the town green. They just changed up the menu for the Spring time. I got an arugula salad and the hanger steak with Brussels sprouts and sweet potato hash. It was so good.
Before the painting got started I decided to get some motivation from this chocolate banana bread. Have you ever had chocolate banana bread? This was my first and let me tell you it is good. So good!
That was my weekend and boy did it go by fast. What were you up to?

This weekend was all about yard work and I am S.O.R.E. I am seriously debating whether or not I should sleep on the couch so I don't have to go up the stairs. We had professions come and cut down a huge tree this week. I think this motivated Mr. J's inner lumber jack. He then decided we needed to get out and do work in the woods.
As a reward for our efforts I made cookies. Cornflakes. Chocolate chips. Oatmeal. Marshmallows. Yum!
Biscuits also happened. I was in such a mood for biscuits. These did not disappoint.
